How Does Gadolinium Deposition Disease Occur?
After a contrast dye injection, gadolinium is supposed to be filtered through the kidneys and completely eliminated from a patient’s body through their urine within a few days. However, recent research shows that significant amounts of gadolinium may remain in patients’ bodies for longer periods of time. When gadolinium isn’t filtered properly, it builds up in a patient’s brain and other organs, causing severe side effects. This is known as gadolinium deposition disease.
